Army ACHA D2 Weekend Recap

The Black Knights opened up Super East Collegiate Hockey League play this weekend against Siena College, and emerged 1-0-1 with a win on Saturday night and a tie on Sunday. While still south of the .500 mark, Army took a step in the right direction after three straight losses to open the season and now sit at 1-3-1 overall.

On a Saturday devoid of Army football, the ACHA D2 hockey team traveled north to take on the Siena Saints. In a fierce battle between the two squads, Army emerged victorious. The Black Knights managed to fend off Siena for a final score of 3-2, notching their first win of the season.

On Sunday, the Black Knights played catch-up the whole game with the Saints. Siena opened up the scoring in the first while holding Army scoreless. The Black Knights broke through late in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. The third period became a flurry of activity with Siena taking a 2-1 lead which Army tied minutes later. The Saints would go ahead again, 3-2, forcing Army to pull their goalie for the fourth time in five games this season.

However, this time fortune favored the Black Knights as they tied the game 3-3 with 1:21 left in the game. Regulation ended with a tie, which brought about overtime. Neither team managed to score during the overtime frame, resulting in a final score of 3-3.
