Colorado State ACHA D2 Weekend Recap

The CSU Rams’ ACHA D2 team opened up Big Mountain Hockey Conference play this past weekend, taking on the DU Pioneers. Friday night was an exciting, back and forth contest.

Josh Gadow opened up scoring for the Rams par way through the first period to keep the score even at one apiece. Both the Pioneers and Rams would tally in the second period, with CSU’s Nick Scherbinin notching a breakaway goal. The Pioneers opened up things in the third, scoring three goals. The Rams kept things at 5-3 until Adam Anderson managed to close the gap to 5-4 with less than a minute left in the game.

Despite a flurry of last-minute chances, CSU was unable to find an equalizer and dropped their first BMHC contest 5-4. The Rams were able to turn things around on Saturday night and returned to Fort Collins with a win. CSU jumped out to an early lead in the first and trailed only once during the game.

Max Legere opened up scoring for the Rams, with Derek Nead providing a 2-2 equalizer in the second period as well as the go-ahead goal (and eventual game-winner) in the third. Adam Anderson sealed the deal with an empty-netter to give CSU a 4-2 win over DU.

The Rams now stand at 1-1 in the BMHC, and will continue BMHC action this upcoming weekend with a singular home game against the University of Northern Colorado Bears. Check back later this week for a preview of that game!
