The Rams are coming off their first big road trip of the season, a 2-1-0 outing at the Cali Classic. Sitting at 5-3-0 on the season, CSU returns to Big Mountain Hockey Conference play this upcoming weekend with two games at the University of Wyoming.
Cali Classic Wrap-Up
The Rams took on Long Beach State on Friday evening, and fell behind 1-0 in the first period. CSU quickly regrouped and rattled off three unanswered goals in the second period to go up, 3-1. Long Beach State came storming back in the third period with three goals of their own, but the Rams netted another two and managed to hold on for a 5-4 win.
On Saturday, the Rams resumed play against Loyola Marymount. Both teams jumped out in the first period, battling to a 2-2 tie going into the second frame. CSU managed to pull ahead in the second period 3-2. The Rams put their foot on the gas in the third period with two more goals to win the game, 5-2.
CSU looked they were going to roll out of California with a third straight win on Sunday against Cal State – Northridge, but ultimately came up short. After taking a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, the Rams fell, 4-3, for their only blemish on the weekend.
The Rams travel north this Friday and Saturday to take on the University of Wyoming Cowboys in BMHC action. The Cowboys are winless in conference play with six losses. This is a big opportunity for CSU to post two conference wins against a struggling opponent. All other teams’ points remaining constant, two wins this weekend would put the Rams in second place with 11 points, just behind UNC.
After proving themselves against stiff competition on the road in California, expect the Rams to carry momentum and confidence into this weekend’s match-ups with Wyoming. BKR Hockey Twitter will feature game updates in addition to CSU’s Twitter account likely having coverage as well.
